WE HAVE A WINNER!

Mrs Lesley H. of Ormskirk has scooped the amazing cash prize of £121, 547!

Her first reaction to the news when we phoned her was:  “Are you kidding me, is this a joke?”

Her husband’s first reaction was “I love you, Guy!!”

Once she had time to take it all in she sent us this message:

“Hi Guy and Julie,

I was thrilled and excited to receive your call to tell me that I had won the cash prize in the “Winacountryhall” draw.  This will bring a lot of pleasure to me and my family and I will take great satisfaction in sharing my good fortune with them.

As I mentioned in our conversation, if you don’t mind, I would appreciate it if you could kindly not release my full name in any media release.

Wishing you and Julie all the best.

Thanks again and very kind regards

Lesley H.”

Message from St John’s Hospice.

“Good afternoon Guy and Julie,

I would like to confirm receipt of the donation from Melling Hall Raffle of £32,219 in to our bank account today.

Throughout the last few months it has been a joy to meet you and also to work alongside you on this amazing prize draw.  Whilst we know the final outcome wasn’t what you wanted, I think we all agree that we gave it our best shot and the charity has still benefited hugely from this draw and equally I’m sure the winner was pleased to receive a high value cash prize!

The outstanding care we provide to our community is only made possible by the continued support from our community.  2020 has certainly been a year we won’t forget and COVID-19 will long be remembered for the way it quickly dismantled our way of life and our way of working.  In the case of St John’s, we saw our fundraising plans swept away almost overnight, leaving a terrible gap in our funding for 2020 and resulting in furlough and furrowed brows.  Quite rightly, the management team have focussed resources on the clinical side of our work, particularly our in-patient ward and our ‘Hospice at Home’ service with nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialists working tirelessly in our community.  Our patients and their families remain at the forefront of everything we do, as we care for them and support them with their pain and symptom management or a dignified and pain free end of life.

Your hard work and dedication to help a charity like St John’s Hospice won’t be forgotten and we can assure you during this difficult time the donation will be put to extremely good use supporting the patients in our community.

You may never get to meet the patients we support but on behalf of them please accept our grateful thanks for this wonderful donation.

Kind regards,

Catherine, Sophy and David.”

We would like to take this opportunity to again express our heart-felt thanks to all who have supported our fundraising efforts.

The kindness we have received has been overwhelming.

The draw was carried out by Sterling Lotteries on the 30th September, using their Gambling Commision approved software (as set out in the Ts & Cs).  They are still in full lock down so did not want anyone extra on the premises.  Even Julie and I did not attend.  Unfortunately, this made it impractical to film the draw in any meaningful way.  I know this will be a disappointment to some people, but we were keen to keep the draw process “at arms length” so everyone would know it was completely impartial.

Although we did have the option within the Ts & Cs to extend the entry date, we did not feel happy to do so.

We are obviously deeply disappointed that we have not been able to award the house as the prize, but as our personal priority was to raise money for St John’s Hospice, at a time when their usual sources of funding have been so hard hit, we feel the Draw has been a success where it mattered most.

Thank you all again,

Guy and Julie.
